When one mentions anything about piano, the name “Beethoven” comes to mind almost instantly. Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist, who till this very day, remains as one of the most famous and influential of all composers. During that time, he managed to compose five different piano concertos. Piano Concerto no. 1 was in C major op. 15. Piano Concerto no. 2 was in B flat major op. 19. Piano Concerto no. 3 was in C minor op. 37. Piano Concerto no. 4 was in G major op. 58 and Piano Concerto no. 5, also known as “Emperor” was composed in E flat major op. 73.

We are all aware how highly acclaimed Beethoven and his pieces are. Therefore, it is not an easy task to take on any of his Piano Concertos. Each of his Piano Concerto requires good technical skills and consistent practice. So can you imagine performing all five of his Piano Concertos? Well, that’s exactly what Lim Yan is going to do. Lim Yan had the honour of being the first ever Singaporean pianist to perform all five Beethoven piano concertos as a cycle. He is considered to be the most active and consistent Singaporean pianist in the local scene. In a way, that’s a good thing because to attempt all five of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos, one would be require to be consistent.

His amazing performance took place over three days. During the second and the third day, Lim Yan displayed his talent by playing the Second, Third and Fourth Concertos as well as the Triple Concerto as a rare bonus. He was in good form and performed each piece promptly and precisely. You can tell by the applause from the audience how excited and blown away they were by his performance. History was made for both Lim Yan and Singapore. It was a performance that he will definitely remember and keep for the rest of his life. For the full article, you can check it out here.

We can all agree that Beethoven is gifted. He had the ability to compose such quality pieces even at a tender age. Perhaps Lim Yan is gifted too, but he wouldn’t have been able to put on such a performance if it wasn’t for hard work. No matter how gifted one is as a pianist, hard work is still required to achieve greatness. In fact, this is true for many other things too. However, the first step is learning to play the piano, which is something Piano Lessons SG can assist in. Check out our website to take a look at what we have to offer!
