Jemima Lewis has found a new method of looking into her psychological flaws. Instead of going to therapy, she realises that by attending piano lessons, it can aid her in having a better understanding.

It all began when a friend of hers was unable to fit a baby grand piano into his flat. Her husband and herself decided to take delivery of it and place it in their home. Initially, they simply used it as part of their furniture by just laying things on it. Eventually, they realise that is it more than just a display and not just for show. This prompted them into engaging a piano teacher to teach the both of them. Their teacher was named Greg. He was a local boy who studied jazz somewhere prestigious. His way of teaching is by basically playing simple notes and then getting them to mimic him.

Jemima herself is a 41-year-old mother of three. When she realise that she was unable to perform as she would like to, she started tearing up. On the other hand, her husband seem to be a natural talent. After his third lesson, he was able to get the basics right. This spur him on and everyday when he comes home from work, the first thing he would do is to sit down and practice on the piano. The clear difference between them is that her husband doesn’t get disheartened when he is unable to get the tricky parts. Instead, he only gets motivated to keep trying.

This also made her realise that this is probably the reason why he was able to win multiple prizes in school, while she failed almost every exam that she took. According to her, “he is the living embodiment of Thomas Edison’s recipe for genius: 1 per cent inspiration, 99 per cent perspiration. I, on the other hand, am 100 per cent defeatism.” For the full story, you can check it out here.

If the piano lessons with Greg taught Jemima anything, it would probably be never to give up just because of failures over a few attempts. At Piano Lessons Singapore, we believe that everyone has a different learning ability as well as pace. Some of us tend to learn faster compared to others. Regardless, one should never give up that easily. All of us know that noone is perfect. However, we also understand that with more practice, we will definitely be able to make improvements.
